3 Vital Questions To Ask Your New Cosmetic Dentist

Dentist Blog

Do you have teeth that are less than perfect? Are you someone who actively tries to avoid smiling as much as possible to prevent people from being able to see your teeth? Whether because of an accident, genetics, or some other factor, it's not uncommon to have teeth that are crooked, missing, or simply discolored. Fortunately, this is also something that you don't have to put up with. There are many dentists who offer cosmetic dentistry services and who can restore your smile to one that you've always wanted. But because picking a dentist can seem arbitrary and random at times, here are some of the most important questions to ask to be sure that you've found the right one for you:

Are there other treatment options? After your initial examination, the dentist will let you know what he or she feels will be the best option for fixing your teeth. But while the dentist feels that they are the best option, you may feel differently about your own mouth. For instance, some people might prefer an extraction of a damaged tooth rather than attempting a root canal even though the root canal might be considered the better option. A good dentist will discuss all of the cosmetic dentistry services that they are suggesting and what the pros and cons are of each choice.

How much of this is covered by insurance? While your dentist isn't going to be an expert in insurance policies, there are some cosmetic dentistry services that are almost always covered by insurance and others that are almost never covered by insurance. Your dentist should have a good idea as to how much of the work will be paid for by insurance and how much of it you can expect to have to pay for out of your own pocket.

What sort of payment plans do you offer? Because cosmetic dentistry services can be expensive, most dentists aren't going to expect you to pay for the entire cost of your treatment up front. Instead, they will have at least one finance option, if not more, available. If you have a dental discount plan in addition to your insurance coverage, you may be able to cut the cost even further. A good dentist will mention these things to do what he or she can to help ensure that you're able to afford the treatment plan that he or she has laid out for you.

Coping With Dental Emergencies

My son was outside playing with some friends when he accidentally fell down and hit his mouth on the sidewalk. The fall knocked out his front tooth, so I immediately placed the tooth in a small jar and added some milk. I rushed my son to the dental clinic and the dentist immediately took us into the examination room. The dentist placed the tooth back into the socket and saved it. My name is Beverly Tillman and thanks to the quick work of the dentist, my son didn't lose his tooth. Since this was a scary time for me and my son, I wanted to write this blog as a source of information for other parents who are facing a dental emergency. First of all, don't panic and get to your dentist as soon as possible. I hope this blog will help to answer your questions about dental emergencies.
