Reasons For Getting Porcelain Veneers

Dentist Blog

If you have an issue with the cosmetic appearance of your teeth, your dentist will recommend several solutions, including porcelain veneers. Dentists place porcelain veneers at the front of your teeth to cover unappealing-looking teeth. Your dentist will first get the shape of your natural teeth to allow makers of porcelain veneers to produce custom-made ones to suit your needs. They will follow up with an appointment to bond the veneers to your teeth. Some of the reasons porcelain veneers are better than other remedies to dental issues include:

Improves Dental Aesthetics

The appearance of your teeth is one of the first things other people notice about you. It is a source of confidence, meaning those with discolored, poorly spaced, stained, chipped, or missing teeth may be unwilling to smile or laugh in public. Consequently, their lack of confidence in the appearance of their teeth will affect their ability to interact with others. However, porcelain veneers can help remedy the cosmetic appearance of your teeth. The veneers are pieces of ceramic that resemble the color of a tooth's enamel and similarly reflect light.  They are the best option to correct the appearance of your teeth and give them a more natural look.

Involves Minimally Invasive Procedures

Some dental repair processes, like putting in dental crowns or dental bridges, are considered invasive. They involve chipping away large layers of your enamel since they have to cover an entire tooth to achieve their goal. Moreover, since the processes are more invasive and take longer to complete, they also require the use of anesthesia. On the other hand, porcelain veneers only require removing a small amount of your enamel at the front of your teeth. The chipping away of the enamel ensures the cement used to bond your tooth to the veneer works effectively and results in a more natural-looking dental formula. In addition, your dentist will only use little to no anesthesia since the process is not invasive.

Protects Your Teeth

Natural teeth are susceptible to stains and cavities which affect their appearance and cause toothaches and tooth decay. Porcelain veneers will help protect your natural teeth from food remains and drinks that may cause such issues, resulting in improved dental health. Moreover, the medical-grade ceramic used to manufacture porcelain veneers is durable, meaning with proper maintenance, like brushing twice a day and flossing regularly, it can last several years before you experience cracks or chipping. The ceramic material is also nonporous, meaning they are not at risk of developing cavities or stains. Thus, consider porcelain veneers for a longer-lasting solution to your teeth's appearance.

Coping With Dental Emergencies

My son was outside playing with some friends when he accidentally fell down and hit his mouth on the sidewalk. The fall knocked out his front tooth, so I immediately placed the tooth in a small jar and added some milk. I rushed my son to the dental clinic and the dentist immediately took us into the examination room. The dentist placed the tooth back into the socket and saved it. My name is Beverly Tillman and thanks to the quick work of the dentist, my son didn't lose his tooth. Since this was a scary time for me and my son, I wanted to write this blog as a source of information for other parents who are facing a dental emergency. First of all, don't panic and get to your dentist as soon as possible. I hope this blog will help to answer your questions about dental emergencies.
